Comings & Goings: Art Van Furniture opening in Bedford Park

By Bob Bong
Ê
Michigan-based Art Van Furniture, a chain known for its furniture and mattresses, is scheduled to open a new store at 9 a.m. Saturday in the Bedford City Square plaza in Bedford Park.

The company moved into the Chicago market in July when it opened its first store in Orland Park and a distribution center in Bolingbrook.

The opening of its Bedford Park store at 7200 S. Cicero Ave. coincides with the opening of the chain’s first store in Chicago that will include a preview party tonight with entertainment provided by the Jim Belushi band. No such shindig was announced for the Bedford Park store.

The store will be corporate-owned and employ 60 to 80 workers.

The Bedford Park store will be the chain’s fifth store in the Chicago market. Other stores are in Orland Park, Chicago, Bolingbrook, Batavia and Merrillville-Hobart in northwest Indiana.
Ê

Hours will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.

Used car lots coming to Bridgeview

Two new used car lots will be opening soon in Bridgeview.

One will take over a former Citgo gas station and detail shop at 9150 S. Harlem Ave. while the other will take over the former Super Buy Motors car lot at 7158 S. Harlem Ave.

ÒWe’re always glad to see businesses choose Bridgeview as their destination,” said Bridgeview Trustee Claudette Struzik. ÒIt’s an encouraging trend, and we’ll continue to work to draw interest from businesses that will invest in our community and its people.”

Struzik said the businesses were planning on investing nearly $1 million in each location.

Both businesses have already been approved by the Bridgeview Village Board.

Mariano’s to break ground

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for 10 a.m. Oct. 31 at 2601 W. 95th St. for a new Mariano’s grocery store that will be built as part of the new Evergreen Promenade project in Evergreen Park.

Robert A. Mariano, chairman, president and CEO of Roundy’s Inc., and Evergreen Park Mayor James J. Sexton will be the guest speakers.
Ê

The store is expected to take up about 75,000 square feet of the 92,512-square-foot Promenade shopping center when completed next year.

Milwaukee-based Roundy’s has set its sights on the south suburbs. The chain opened a Mariano’s in Frankfort earlier this year and broke ground last month on store on 111th Street in Oak Lawn.

West Suburban Chamber celebrates Halloween

The West Suburban Chamber of Commerce and Industry will celebrate Halloween with a Scary Business after Hours event from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Oct. 30 at Country Financial, 6438 Joliet Road in Countryside.
