Comings & Goings: Hitzeman Funeral Home marks 110th anniversary

Spread the love

Personal services are what Todd Hitzeman say sets his family’s funeral home

apart from the others.

“Our long family tradition provides the continuity and stability that people

really appreciate during grieving times,” said Hitzeman, the great-grandson of

the founder and President of Hitzeman Funeral Home in Brookfield. “Because we

have been an integral part of the community for so long, our clients throughout

Chicagoland and the western suburbs know that they can count on us to be there

when they need us. We have folks come into our funeral home because they

remember the caring service my father and grandfather provided to their family

in the past.”

Hitzeman said things “haven’t changed much since I took it over from my dad.

It wasn’t broken so there was nothing to fix.”

The business was started by his great-grandfather in 1904 at 4115 W. 26thSt.

“We built the Brookfield location in 1963 when there wasn’t much here,” he

said.

In the mid-1970s, the family closed the Chicago location and centralized

everything at the Brookfield office.

Hitzeman said he’s not ready to retire anytime soon.

“We have a vested interest in the community, and a vested interest in

the business that we’ve kept going for 110 years,” he said. “I get a

lot of people coming to us because my grandfather or my dad was good to them

and it is my intention to do the same.

“The Hitzeman family has succeeded by maintaining tradition, dignity and

quality of service. We are proud to serve the community we live in, and to be a

part of our patron’s lives for 110 years. We look forward to continuing the

legacy as a family owned business for years to come.”

The funeral will celebrate its anniversary with an open house from noon to 4

p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at 9445 W. 31st St. At the open house you will have

the opportunity to:

  • Enjoy music and entertainment by Dan Hamilton from the

    American Legion

  • Participate in a Veteran’s Salute at 1 p.m.
  • Be entertained by Trent James Ketchmark, magician

    extraordinaire, at 2:30 p.m.

  • Refreshments catered by local restaurants

acquires Bedford Park firm

Naturex Inc., based in South Hackensack, N.J., acquired Vegetable Juices Inc. of Bedford Park last

who is credited with having taken a part in developing the V8 vegetable juice

brand. The company has since expanded to offer a variety of vegetable

ingredients as concentrates, juices, purŽes, and dices. In a recent interview

with Nutritional Outlook,

Vegetable Juices Inc. hinted that it is seeing growing interest in savory

beverages, which may incorporate ingredients such as cayenne pepper, bell

pepper, lemongrass and ginger.
