European Chalet Banquets and Catering, at 5445 S. Harlem

Ave. on the Chicago side of the street, has been selected as one of the top 10

wedding venues in Chicago by eventective.com.

The website said that European Chalet continues “the European

tradition where food is the center of the celebration, this family-run business

provides a warm and inviting atmosphere for your wedding festivities.”

The website praised European Chalet for its contemporary setting

and a friendly staff. The post also

pointed out that European Chalet was close to Midway Airport, which made it

easier for guests arriving from out of town.

Applebee’s has

new look in Hodgkins

The Applebee’s Grill at 9380 Joliet Road in Hodgkins dodged a

bullet last year when more than a dozen Applebee’s were closed in the Chicago

area.

Now the restaurant is sporting a new look after the establishment

underwent a months-long remodeling.

The restaurant debuted its new look some weeks ago.

Hours are Sunday to Thursday from 11 a.m. to midnight and from 11

a.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday.

nominations for its 2014 Business Champion Awards.

Nominations are being

accepted through September 1 for awards in the following categories:

  workforce by encouraging lifelong learning.

• SustainabilityÑbusinesses

  committed to reducing their ecological footprint by incorporating environmentally

  sustainable practices.

• Excellence

  in GovernmentÑa leader who demonstrates the foresight to create a healthy

  community.

• PhilanthropyÑa

  business or individual who demonstrates outstanding philanthropic

  contributions.

• Entrepreneur/Small

  Business Person of the YearÑindividuals or no more than three partners who

  operate a small business with a two-year track record and show continued

  growth.

• Women

  in Business/Leadership AwardÑa leading woman of influence in business with

  five to 10 years of professional experience.

• InnovationÑCompelling

  idea, product or service that demonstrates significant benefit to users

  and addresses market needs.

Individuals and businesses

can be nominated for as many award categories for which they qualify, but they

can only win in one category. Entries must include a nomination form, a short

biography, and a brief description of the business or individual and why they

are being nominated. Self-nominations are accepted.

The awards will be

presented at the 19^th annual Business Champion Awards Ñ Stars of the

Southwest Suburbs on Thursday, Nov. 6, in the college’s Moraine Business and

Conference Center.
