Cook County officials visit Roberts Park Fire Protection District

By Carol McGowan

Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle and Cook County Commissioner Donna Miller visited the Roberts Park Fire Protection District facilities last Thursday morning.

District Board President Brian Bernardoni talks with Cook County Board President Toni Preckwinkle during her visit to the Roberts Park Fire Protection District.

The first stop was Station 2 at the Justice Village Hall. At that location, they did a quick tour of the station with Fire Chief Jeff Ketchen, District Board President Brian Bernardoni, District Board Secretary Steve Stratakos, and department personnel that were on duty.

After that tour, they were off to Station 1 on Roberts Road near 87th Street to have a look at that facility, and observe a firefighter training exhibition drill on how a car can be taken apart in minutes to get someone out if they’re trapped.

The purpose of the tour was to not only show Preckwinkle and Miller Stations 1 and 2, but to give the demonstration and show what the fire protection district does for the residents of Justice and Hickory Hills and the forest preserve area they cover. Preckwinkle and Miller were also able to observe part of the Interstate 294 tollway ramp construction work that is visible from each location.

Last year was their busiest year ever in which they responded to over 4,000 calls.
