United against crime in Clearing

CRRNH OllyShilney 081121

Clearing Night Force leaders Judy Ollry and Mary Shilney lead prayers and offer remarks at the annual National Night Out anti-crime event last week. As always, the focal point of the CNF’s effort was the monument to Carrie Hovel and Helen Martin at 62nd and Melvina. The girls, both age 13, died near the site in 1995 in a gang-related shooting. Neighborhood shock and outrage over the teens’ slaying led to the Clearing Night Force founding in 1996. It has operated ever since and has served as a model for other, newer neighborhood watch groups. The CNF patrols all of Clearing west of Central Avenue. New members are always welcome and are encouraged to visit clearingnightforce.com.
