At the triangle at 55th, Archer and Narragansett, the Garfield Ridge Chamber of Commerce recently placed placards honoring the sacrifice of 13 members of the U.S. military (11 Marines, one Navy corpsman and one soldier) slain in an Aug. 26 suicide bombing outside the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul, Afghanistan. Each placard bears photos of those killed, as well their name and facts about them. “We want to honor their service and at the same time let everyone know that the business owners of this area are forever grateful for the sacrifice of the fallen,” GRCC President Mary Ellen Brown told the Clear-Ridge Reporter & NewsHound.
