Discarded masks are a litter problem

Plastic products thrown in our oceans and on our beaches have become a crisis. But now a crisis closer to home is happening: face masks are polluting West Elsdon.
As you know, my family goes on a daily “picking up garbage” walk around the area. We have a bucket and a grabber and usually pick up 1 ½ buckets each trip. On average there are about four face masks daily in the bucket.

I am not joking or stretching the truth. Let’s all be more diligent in how we dispose of our masks; or if they fall off due to wind, just toss them in the garbage.
Congratulations to Deacon Sal Villa from the parishioners of St. Bruno Church. He is celebrating his 49th anniversary of his diaconate ordination today, Dec. 10.
Following up on St. Bruno school’s A Very Merry Grinchmas: The event is Sunday, Dec. 19 from 1:30 to 4 p.m. Advance tickets are recommended and are available at the school office. Prices are $5 per adult (12 and older) and $3 per child. Pictures with the Grinch will be available, along with games, crafts and vendors.
Starting in the 2022-23 school year, St. Bruno and St. Richard schools will unify. The St. Bruno campus will be for pre-k through third grade students. The St. Richard campus will be for fourth through eighth grade students.
If you have students and are interested in touring, St. Bruno will be open on Sunday, Dec. 12 from 1:30 to 3 p.m. St. Richard will be touring on Sunday, Dec. 19 from 10:30 a.m. to noon. This has to be one of the nicest drives I have ever heard of. Girl Scout Troop 20307 from St. Daniel the Prophet Parish is collecting Communion dresses. If you have a new or gently used dress, please drop it off at Mulligan Hall on Saturday, Dec. 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Every young girl while making her First Communion should feel special and beautiful.
By the time you read this, our house will be boosted. We are both scheduled for the week of the 6th. Prior to that, I will attempt to make Jewish penicillin, or matzo ball soup. I watched a “Beat Bobby Flay” episode where Bobby lost to matzo ball soup. It should be just the right thing needed after our boosts.
