By Bob Bong

A 24-year-old Chicago man has been charged with first-degree murder in the New Year’s Eve shooting of his stepfather in Evergreen Park.

Brandon K. Kizer, 24, of the 8100 block of South Loomis in Chicago, was charged Sunday with first-degree murder in the death of Anthony Young, 52, on the morning of December 31 in the 8800 block of South California Avenue, police said in a press release.

Kizer is being held without bond at Cook County Jail.

Police said they received a call at 9:15 a.m. on Friday of shots fired in the 8800 block of California. Officers found Young had been shot and called paramedics.

Young was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced deceased.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office said Young had been shot multiple times. They ruled his death was a homicide.

Kizer was taken into custody by Evergreen Park Police at the scene.

His next scheduled court date is February 16 at the Criminal Courts Building.
