More renovations planned for Worth golf course

Upgrades continue at Water’s Edge Golf Course in Worth with plans for an electronic message board to be erected on the property this year.
An ordinance was approved for a license agreement with BRT Outdoor LLC concerning Water’s Edge Golf Course signage during the Worth Village Board meeting on Tuesday night.
The new electronic message board, which will stand seven feet in height and 14 feet wide, will be made of sandstone patterned after the Water’s Edge Golf clubhouse at 7205 W. 115th St., according to Trustee Laura Packwood, who is the head of the golf committee.
“All the landscaping and the electric work will be done by the company that is putting up the sign,” Packwood said.
The village leases the property at Water’s Edge from the Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago. Water’s Edge has an 18-hole golf course, driving range and clubhouse.
The property’s existing electronic message board, which is located near the southwest corner of the intersection of 115th Street and Harlem Avenue, is considered outdated and needs to be replaced.
The new electronic message board will provide outdoor advertising, public service notices, and emergency and civil defense notifications.
The board also approved an ordinance to approve a minor change to the municipal code to allow construction of the electronic message board at Water’s Edge Golf Course along 115th and Harlem.
Packwood also mentioned that video gaming will be offered at the Water’s Edge clubhouse daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The Fraternal Order of Police honored three members of the Worth force for earning master’s degrees. Mayor Mary Werner and officer Michael Cozzi honored Police Chief Tim Denton, and deputy chiefs Christiano Fernandez and Robert Peterson for earning their advanced degrees.
“They did this at their own expense,” said Werner. “They did not ask for anything.”
Trustee Pete Kats, who is the head of the public safety committee, was also proud of the achievement of the Worth officers.
“We are pretty blessed to have these guys,” Kats said.
Trustee Brad Urban, who is the head of the public works committee, said that the department did a fine job clearing the streets after the snowstorm resulted in nearly 11 inches that began to fall on Feb. 2.
Urban said that public works was faced with some challenges when one of the plow units was in need of repairs.
“But our public works — we may not have a lot of them — but they did a great job clearing the snow,” Urban said. “They had to also deal with 11 water main breaks. So, they really did a great job.”
The board also approved an ordinance with the Community and Economic Development Association of Cook County concerning the Low Income Housing Water Assistance Program. Participation in the program will provide financial relief to specific Worth residents and reduce utility debts owed to the village.
Fish Fry Fridays will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. March 4 through April 15 at the Marrs-Meyer American Legion Post 991, 11001 S. Depot St. The fee is $16 for adults and $10 for children ages 12 and under. Children under age 3 can attend free. A possible additional fee for carry-outs will be offered.

Fish frys will also be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Fridays beginning March 4 at the Water’s Edge clubhouse.
A business license was awarded for Papa Chocolate LLC, 11405 S. Harlem Ave. Owner Mohammad Albayatneh said that they will be undergoing some remodeling.
A&R Tobacco, 11300 S. Harlem Ave., also received a tentative business license. The owner is Adrian Starczowski.
Werner wished the two business owners the best of luck.
“We always like when new businesses come to town,” Werner said. “I always tell them when you make money, we make money.”
