A 16-year-old Orland Park youth has been charged as an adult in the shooting last week of an 18-year-old Oak Lawn youth.
Police arrested the Orland teen just hours after the shooting. He was charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and attempted first-degree murder.
Gerald Vetter, Division Chief of Investigations, said in a release that police responded to a call of shots fired in the 9500 block of Campbell Avenue at 8:20 p.m. on March 9. They found the 18-year-old victim had suffered a gunshot wound in the abdomen.
The victim was transported by ambulance to a local hospital where he underwent surgery and was listed in stable condition.
Responding officers secured the scene and began a preliminary investigation at which time three spent shell casings from a 9mm handgun were found on the street. Detectives and patrol officers were able to quickly identify a suspect who was no longer on the scene.
The investigation remains active as police continue to identify and locate other persons of interest involved.
