Palos Heights police charge second man in armed robbery

A second man, who police say was the brother of the first man arrested, has been charged for his role in an armed robbery that took place at a gas station on December 28.

Marlon Triplett, 32, was picked up after police in Indiana were able to obtain a nationwide arrest warrant for armed robbery. He was  charged last week in the Palos Heights armed robbery of a Shell Gas Station at 12121 S. Ridgeland Ave. on December 28.

The first man, Sedgwick Reavers, 30, was taken into custody on February 1 and charged with three counts of armed robbery for the Shell robbery and robberies in Hickory Hills and Palos Hills.

Bail for Reavers was set at $1 million and he remains in custody at Cook County Jail. Bail for Triplett was set at $2 million and he also remains at Cook County Jail. Triplett is awaiting extradition to Indiana.

Police said the two men robbed the gas station in the early morning hours of December 28. Video captured two masked men enter the store.  One man produced a dark, semiautomatic pistol, while the other man took money, cigarettes, and lottery tickets.

The two men left the gas station in a dark colored Nissan sedan.  These same men were identified as the offenders in armed robberies in Palos Hills, Hickory Hills, and multiple other Illinois and Indiana jurisdictions in the following weeks.

The Nissan sedan was located and processed for evidence after a search warrant was obtained. Documents inside the vehicle and subsequent investigation identified the two men as brothers from Chicago.

Triplett and Reavers are also accused of robbing a Thornton’s gas station in Palos Hills on Dec. 30, and a Speedway in Hickory Hills on Jan. 11. In both robberies, police and the prosecutor said Reavers held the gun while his brother stole cigarettes, lottery tickets and cash.
