Palos Park Oks $3 million for road repair projects
First up, Palos Dells area

Some money is taking a trip to the Dells.
The Village of Palos Park is ready to make some big-time local street repairs and the Palos Dells area is the first in line.
The village council unanimously voted at its March 28 meeting to approve a $3 million sale of alternate revenue source bonds to repair, maintain and improve village roadways.
“There is a strong need to repair and improve roadways and related stormwater drainage systems in our community,” Mayor John Mahoney said. “The Dells has been identified as the area most in need of improvement when considering the extent of not only roadway improvements needed, but also the related stormwater drainage improvements that are necessary to help maintain the integrity of the roadway surface well into the future.”
The funding should be finalized in the coming months and the council can set game plans and timelines. The village figures to spend $1 million in each of the next three years on roads.
Veteran police officer honored
The council honored an 18-year veteran of the Palos Park police force who spent 12 of those year in specialized investigative assignments, high-level domestic and international drug trafficking and other important duties.
Bob Kotsianis was given a plaque and dining card to Capri Ristorante Italiano for his service.
“We salute Bob’s commitment to duty, service and his contributions to the greater good,” Police Commissioner Dan Polk said. “His work ethic and professionalism is an inspiration to our organization and is an example for others to follow.”
Kotsianis said this was a surprise and thanked his family for its support.
“The late-night phone calls, random changing of schedules and babysitters is a part of this job,” he said. “It’s great to come home to them being happy, positive and kind.”
Autumn in the Park plans
The council took a couple of steps forward in getting the Autumn in the Park Event ready for Sept. 16-17.
The commissioners and mayor voted to pay $17,848.50 to Big Tents Events of Carol Stream to provide tents, flooring lights and staging for entertainment.
It also voted to take care of a few state liquor and liability fees totaling $325.
