Peace Walk offers glimpse into bright future

The ASTRRONGU Youth Council continues to be a bright light in our neighborhood. They recently held their annual Peace Walk at West Lawn Park.

ASTRRONGU means A Strong You and the letters stand for – Always Stick Together Resist Reach Out Never Give Up.
This dedicated youth group promotes peace and safety by encouraging young people of all ages to resist joining gangs and instead choose positive behavior. There are tutoring services, counseling, college tours, career and resume help, art classes, nutrition services, support groups, and employment workshops. All of these activities promote the idea of doing your best and growing strong.
The Peace Walk was a positive event by neighborhood youths. This gives us hope about the future adults of our neighborhood. Their efforts were rewarded by a pizza party provided by Paisan’s Pizza, 6545 S. Pulaski.

The West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St., will be hosting a game night on Monday, May 9 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. There will be Pokemon card games, chess and a variety of board games for all ages. Call (312) 747-7381 for more information. All are welcome.

The Esperanza Health Center will be presenting a health workshop on Saturday, May 7 from noon to 1 p.m. at the West Lawn Library. The program is called The ABCs of Hepatitis. For more information, call (773) 916-4436.
A great big thank you goes to the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts of St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish. These wonderful young people saw that the roundabout at 61st and Hamlin had become an eyesore. Reckless drivers had run over the area, causing damage. Garbage had accumulated.
The Scouts cleaned up the mess and used beautifully painted recycled tires filled with flowers and plants to decorate the area. The roundabout now looks neat and charming. Thank you, Scouts!
I appreciate all the nice texts this past week. Thank you to Sandy and to Mary for your delightful phone calls.
