More Wolf Road, Joliet Road overnight closures coming
Temporary, overnight lane closures are scheduled next week on Wolf Road and Joliet Road at the Tri-State Tollway to accommodate bridge beam removal for the reconstruction of the I-294 bridges over Joliet Road and Wolf Road in Indian Head Park.
On Wolf Road, scheduled overnight lane closures will include intermittent full closures, each lasting 15 minutes, between 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 10, and 5 a.m. Wednesday, May 11. If work cannot be completed during this time, a second night of closures will be scheduled during the week.
On Joliet Road, scheduled overnight lane closures will include intermittent, full closures, each lasting 15 minutes, between 1 a.m. and 5 a.m. Friday, May 13. If work cannot be completed during this time, a second night of closures will be scheduled for the following week. Joliet Road is currently reduced to one lane in each direction under I-294.
Throughout May, bridge work will continue at Joliet Road, as well as on I-294 bridges over Flagg Creek, I-55, and Wolf Road.
Local road closures in this area are being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Cook Country Department of Transportation and Highways and the Village of Indian Head Park, as well as local fire and police departments.
This work is part of improvements in the I-55 Interchange area to accommodate reconstruction and widening of the Central Tri-State Tollway.
Electronic message and construction signage will be put in place in advance to alert drivers to the lane closures. The closures are needed to provide a safe work zone and will be scheduled during overnight hours to reduce the impact on local traffic. All work is weather dependent.
The $4 billion Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Project is reconstructing and widening the roadway between Balmoral Avenue and 95th Street to provide congestion relief, update old infrastructure to meet current and future transportation demand and address regional needs. This work is part of the Tollway’s 15-year, $14 billion capital program, Move Illinois: The Illinois Tollway Driving the Future.
