More road closures this week for Roberts Road, 87th Street

Road closures with detours are scheduled for this week on Roberts Road and 87^th Street to accommodate bridge beam removal for the Central Tri-State Tollway (I-294) Project.

In addition to overnight closures, this work will require a weekend-long closure of both local roads at their intersection under I-294. Delays are expected.

On Roberts Road under I-294, up to two nights of full roadway closures will be scheduled during the week of May 9. The closures will begin at 9 p.m. each night with the roadway reopening by 5 a.m. the following morning. During the roadway closures, a posted detour will route traffic via 95^th Street, 88^th Avenue/Cork Avenue and 79^th Street.

Once work at Roberts Road is complete, up to two nights of roadway closures on 87^th Street under I-294 will be scheduled. During the roadway closures, a posted detour will route traffic via Cork Avenue, 95^th Street and Harlem Avenue. The closures will begin at 9 p.m. each night with the roadway reopening by 5 a.m. the following morning.

87th Street road closures and detours.

A weekend-long, full closure of the 87^th Street and Roberts Road intersection with posted detours is scheduled beginning at 9 p.m. on Friday, May 13, through 5 a.m. on Monday, May 16.

To accommodate bridge replacement work, traffic is currently reduced in both directions on Roberts Road and 87th Street. Traffic will remain in this configuration through 2022 for bridge work.

The temporary closures are necessary to safely accommodate the removal of bridge beams on I-294 over Roberts Road and 87^th Street.

Electronic message signs and construction signage will be in place in advance to alert drivers to each of the closures and detours.

Up-to-date closure information will be posted on the Tollway website in the Daily Construction Alert. All work is weather dependent.

Construction in this area is being coordinated with the Illinois Department of Transportation, Cook County Department of Transportation and Highways, Village of Bridgeview, City of Hickory Hills, Village of Justice, as well as local fire and police departments.

In 2022, the Illinois Tollway is continuing work on southern section of the Central Tri-State Project between I-55 and 95^th Street, which includes rebuilding and widening the roadway to five lanes in both directions, including construction of new I-294 bridges over I-55, Flagg Creek, 87th Street and Roberts Road, as well as reconstructing shoulders including adding Flex Lanes. This mainline work is scheduled to be complete by the end of 2023.
