Man shot in apparent road rage incident in Oak Lawn
By Bob Bong
A man was badly injured after he was shot Tuesday night in the 10700 block of Cicero Avenue in Oak Lawn in what police say appears to be a road rage incident.
Gerald Vetter, Division Chief Investigations, said in a release that a police sergeant heard two gunshots in the area of 107th and Cicero about 6 p.m.
The victim, believed to be in his 40s, was found in a parking lot of a business bleeding badly from two gunshot wounds.
The sergeant and a second officer provided life-saving measures to the victim before he was transported to a local hospital by the Oak Lawn Fire Department.
Vetter said the victim was in surgery Tuesday night and his condition was unknown.
Vetter said Oak Lawn units joined by police from neighboring communities attempted to stop a white Chevrolet Tahoe but it took off at a high rate of speed and disregarded traffic signals. It was last seen speeding away from the scene southbound on Interstate 294 at 147th Street.
Police are looking for a man described as black, in his 30s, 5-foot, 7-inches or 5-foot, 8-inches, weighing about 150 pounds. He was wearing a white T-shirt.
Vetter said the cause of the altercation appears to be a road rage incident, but cautioned that has not been confirmed and police are still waiting to interview the victim.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Oak Lawn Police Detective Division at 708-907-4051 or text tips to 708-613-8477.
