Summer weather means ice cream

And just like that, it’s summer in Chicago! At least for the week of May 9. That means ice cream for our family. We started with black walnut during that hot week. The old-fashioned flavors are the best, in my opinion.

One thing for sure is I have a closet full of shoes. It drives my husband crazy. I still have my wedding shoes that I wore on Sep. 27, 1980. Some of my shoes are still in boxes, never worn. I love collecting the little tennis shoes by Bobs for Skechers (proceeds help homeless pets), Toms and Vans.
So maybe it’s time to clean out the closet and donate. There is a shoe drive running through June 30 at St. Faustina Kowalska Parish in Garfield Ridge. Shoes can be dropped off at the office, 5252 S. Austin, from 9:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. All types of shoes are needed, but just gently worn, used or new.
Happy Belated Birthday wishes to Maribel Martinez. She celebrated on May 16. Birthday wishes go out to Renee Young and Krystyna Plewa, both celebrating on May 25. I miss seeing Krystyna at good old Andy’s on the corner. It is really too bad that there is no longer a local saloon I can walk to from my house on a hot day for a cold one.
