Celebrating real men on Father’s Day

Happy Father’s Day to all the strong, male, father-like figures in our neighborhood.
I will try to name just a few. We have Faras, the security and safety fellow at Peck School. He is young and has a lovely family and always manages to visit with us for a few minutes.

We’ve got Juan in the middle of the block with his two daughters and young son, and a grandbaby. His boy is very bright, and his wife, Maria, is a good friend.
We have Sam, who isn’t a father but adores his nieces and treats them really well.
We have Tim across the alley, who raised a fine young man.
We have Isaiah’s father from the 3700 block of West 57th Place, who raised a great family as well. His wife, Maria, is a wonderful woman.
The list is endless.
The committee for the mural at 59th and Central Park met for a whopping four hours this past week. All the artists presented exceptional works, so it was very difficult deciding. With that said, no decision has been made as of this writing. Hopefully by next week we will have results to report.
Sometimes on a weekend night with the windows open, I feel I live near the Indy 500. Yes, there is a drag racing problem along Pulaski, starting close to 41st Street and continuing south.
The Archer Heights Civic Association addressed this in their June newsletter. Their concerns have been expressed to the 14th Ward and they will monitor that particular location (41st) to see if one or two speed humps will be needed along Ann Lurie Place.
I would also like to thank the AHCA for mentioning the Southwest Chicago Post in their newsletter. It’s an online news service for the Southwest Side and operated by Tim and Joan Hadac. They are local news reporters, lifelong Southwest Siders and champions of small business in our community.
I’m looking forward to Saturday, the 18th where I will meet 15th Ward Ald. Raymond Lopez at a meet and greet.
