Chicago man arrested after holding co-workers hostage in Chicago Ridge
By Bob Bong
A Chicago man has been charged after holding two employees at gunpoint Monday morning at Redline Towing in Chicago Ridge.
Police said officers were dispatched at 10:50 a.m. to Redline Towing, 10103 Kitty Avenue, for an employee threatening his co-workers.
Police said a man identified as Anan K. Abudayek, of Chicago, was inside the office area and had two employees inside with him. He was reportedly armed with a handgun and an assault rifle.
Police said Abudayeh was upset about not receiving full pay for his work and threatened to shoot people if he did not get $500 he felt was owed to him.
About 15 minutes after police arrived, Abudayeh agreed to exit the business peacefully. Police said the two employees inside the business were able to calm Abudayeh down and get him to comply with police requests to surrender. No one was injured during the incident.
Police said that Abudayeh carried the assault rifle into the business inside a backpack.
Police said the assault rifle had a fully loaded magazine and he was carrying a second fully loaded rifle magazine on him. In addition, he had a loaded handgun and several additional loaded magazines on him.
After many hours of review, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges for Abudayeh of aggravated unlawful restraint, aggravated UUW and aggravated assault.
Abudayeh appeared in court Tuesday morning, where he was released on bond.
His next scheduled court date is Sept. 7 at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
