Richards opens doors to teens barred from new Oak Lawn music festival
On Saturday, September 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. Richards High School, 10601 S. Central Avenue, will open its gymnasiums for Oak Lawn teenagers who would like a place to hang out and have some fun.
Please enter through Door S8 on the south side of campus along 107th Street. Admission is free.
This event, which requires student IDs to enter, is limited to Richards and Oak Lawn high school students.
Principal Mike Jacobson chose to organize this event because Fall on the Green was renamed Fall Music Festival and turned into an adult-only event this year and will not allow anyone under 18 to enter. (Chicago Ridge Mall also requires an adult to accompany teens on Friday and Saturday nights).
Jacobson asked Oak Lawn Community High School if they would like to offer students a place to go on Saturday and they agreed.
“No one locked us out of the mall. The message to adults has become ‘don’t let kids in.’ We have to be better adults. We have to give them some place to go and give them something positive to do. They need healthy supervised activities,” Jacobson said.
