Halloween candy dish already full

We welcome October and its Halloween festivities. I also welcome all of the Halloween treats that have filled my candy dish already.
The St. Turibius community will not be going hungry. Thanks to neighbors, friends and volunteers, the St. Vincent de Paul Society’s food pantry is restocked.
Several classmates of mine also contributed. It was intended that we would meet at the pantry and go out for dinner along Pulaski.

Unfortunately our plans were abruptly changed and canceled on the 16th with the condition of Pulaski Road. Hopefully, next year the Mexican Independence Day celebration will be more quiet.
Good luck to the catechists at St. Turibius Parish on the start of the new religious school year. Serving for close to two years, I know it takes a special person to mold the lives of the young ones.
I’d like to thank the folks on 57th Place for attending the party we hosted a few weeks ago. It was a huge success with plenty of food and drinks. The best thing we did was hire the DJ, Tom. We danced to Billy Joel, the Beatles, Mexican songs and even Gene Autry.
I think everyone had a good time, and thank you all for the lovely gifts as well. The very next day we were invited to the block party on 58th Street for another great time. If you are in the market for a dj, I can recommend one.
Hope to see you all on Oct. 1 for the shredding event in the parking lot of Peck School. Since I am across the street, I volunteered to work. Not sure what I will be doing, but I will be there. There is also a car show on 63rd Street on the 1st. There will be food trucks, Cafe 63 specials, crafts and a DJ, to name a few highlights. The event runs from 1 to 4 p.m. at 63rd and Narragansett/Mulligan.
Mark the calendars for breakfast at St. Daniel the Prophet Church. The “Get Behind the Vest” will be held on Sunday, Oct. 16 from 8 to 11 a.m. It’s $10 per plate and can be carried out as well as dine in.
