Summit Police Department launches new crime website

The Summit Police Department has launched a digital crime fighting tool.
The department is the second in Illinois to join the CrimeWatch Network. It’s a new website that offers direct access to crime and public safety-related information.
Interim Police Chief Mel Ortiz announced the launch of the site, saying it gives people who use social networks and mobile devices an easier, more effective way to help fight crime and stay informed.
The new Summit Police Department website was developed in partnership with CrimeWatch Technologies and is part of the CrimeWatch Network (crimewatch.net). The website gives the public direct access to crime and public safety-related information happening in their community.
“This new website is the perfect entry point for establishing better police and public partnerships,” Ortiz said. “Technology gives us the opportunity to communicate with the public and the anonymity of the tech avoids the potential risks of sharing information with the police…several police departments throughout the regions are having great success using this technology.”
Local residents and students are strongly encouraged to visit SummitCrimeWatch.com, connect with police department social media sites, and/or download CrimeWatch Mobile from the Apple App Store or Android App Store.

In other action at the September 19 village board meeting, Summit Police Officer Raymond Gonzales was promoted to the rank of sergeant.
The motion was unanimously approved.
In other business, a motion was made to approve an engineer’s estimate in the amount of $419,606.06 payable to Lindahl Bros. for work completed on the 2022 RBI Road Resurfacing project. That was approved.
Three business licenses were approved, pending final inspection. Those were for Sunny Spa, a massage service, at 7411 W. Archer Avenue, Iselas Tamales, at 6208 S. Archer Road, and Koal HVAC, at 6120 S. Archer Road.
A special outdoor event was approved to take place at Mars Bar at 60th and Harlem from 3-9 p.m. on Sunday, October 2. It will be held their parking lot.
The village approved a solicitation permit for Girl Scouts of America, as they hold their annual fall product and cookie sale. They will be able to sell door to door from September 23 to October 19, and from December 15 to January 16.
An ordinance was approved for a donation agreement between the Village of Summit and Alan Dineff, for the donation of property located at 7522 W. 57th Place.
