The story of Dr. Joseph Coler, D.C., is one of success, truly local success. After that, it was off to Palmer University in Davenport, Iowa, where he earned his doctorate in Chiropractic.

To this day, he still lives in the community with his wife, Dr. Wendi Coler, D.C., and their four children. He is active in the Midway Chamber of Commerce (aka the Garfield Ridge Chamber of Commerce), St. Daniel the Prophet Parish and other endeavors that make the community a better place.

He is a certified Chiropractic Sports Physician and has worked with countless local athletes, from kids playing grade school sports to seniors who are still active, and everyone in between.

But mostly, Dr. Coler helps ordinary folks live healthier lives by relieving pain from head to toe: everything from headaches to twisted ankles, and all in between.

Over the decades, he has—directly and indirectly—improved the lives of thousands of men, women and children. He has even helped women who were told they can’t conceive a child, simply by correcting their alignment. Fascinating stories. I’ve told him he should write a book.

Full disclosure: I myself have been a patient of his–as were my husband and two daughters. In our times of need, of injury, Dr. Coler was there to correct alignment problems and let our bodies heal themselves.

• Blessed Martyrs of Chimbote Parish, which includes the westernmost section of Garfield Ridge, will host an Octoberfest celebration from 3 to 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at the old St. Joseph School, 5641 S. 73^rd Ave., Summit. There will be live music from 4 to 7 p.m.

For ticket information, call the parish office at (708) 458-0007 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday or Friday. The event is sponsored by the parish Holy Name Society and the Ladies of the Rosary.

They just published the menu, and it looks delicious. Enjoy bratwurst grilled on an open flame and then dipped in a beer bath, pan-seared smoked sausage smothered in sauerkraut with caraway seeds, slow-roasted chicken pinwheels, smoked pulled pork, German-style potato salad and homemade desserts. You’ll love it!
