Man charged in fatal Oak Lawn shooting outside hospital

Oak Lawn police say a fatal shooting outside of Advocate Christ Medical Center early Saturday morning stemmed from an earlier double homicide near 87th and Green streets.
Marques Rose, 36, of the 8100 block of South Winchester in Chicago, has been charged with one count of first-degree murder for the shooting death of Brandon McGee, of Rockford, in the parking lot of the Oak Lawn hospital, police said in a release.

Prosecutors said Rose got into a shoving match with McGee near the hospital’s emergency room entrance after a large crowd had gathered when one of the victims of the Chicago shooting had been transported there by paramedics. The second victim had been taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital in Evergreen Park. Both victims died at the hospital.
According to reports, members of a car social club had gathered near 87th and Green about 1 a.m. December 3 when one member was shot in the head and taken to Christ where he died. A second person was shot in the chest and later died at Little Company.
Shortly before 2 a.m., Oak Lawn police were sent to the hospital to assist hospital security guards with the growing crowd at 94th Street and Kilbourn Avenue.
Witnesses said Rose and McGee got into a scuffle and both walked away. Rose allegedly returned several minutes later with a handgun. He confronted McGee and shot him in the head.
Police said they heard a gunshot at 2:11 a.m. and found McGee had been shot in the eye. He was rushed into the hospital but died a short time later.
Witnesses told police Rose had fired the shot and he was seen walking away holding a gun.
Rose tossed the gun under a car in the parking lot as he ran away. He was apprehended after a foot chase. A .38-caliber handgun with three spent casings was recovered.
Rose was identified by witnesses in a photo lineup and he allegedly tested positive for gunpowder residue on his hands. Prosecutors said video surveillance was also obtained that supported the witnesses account of what happened.
Rose was ordered held without bond by Judge Barbara Dawkins at the Leighton Criminal Court Building during a bond hearing on Sunday.
Chicago police are investigating the earlier shooting. Neither of the earlier victims has been identified.
