Time to don those ugly sweaters

Happy Ugly Christmas Sweater Day to all. This is a real national holiday celebrated on the third Friday of December each year. If you don’t have an ugly Christmas sweater you can create one by wearing a red or green sweater and hanging Christmas tree ornaments on it. You can also drape Christmas garlands around your neck. I’m always happy to share important information to readers of the Greater Southwest News-Herald.
Speaking of ugly Christmas sweaters, the Chi-West Lawn Runners Club is having a Ugly Christmas Sweater Fun Run on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 6:30 p.m. All are invited to go on a three-mile walk or run with this friendly group. Bring a friend if you’d like. No registration required.

Instead of meeting at West Lawn Park, they are meeting at Godson’s Bar, 6910 Windsor Ave., Berwyn. After the walk/run, everyone will gather at Godson’s for food and drinks.
Marquette Bank, 6155 S. Pulaski, is now collecting new and unwrapped toys and gift cards for their Christmas toy drive. The toys will be donated to local non-profit organizations that will distribute the toys to neighborhood children. Just drop off your donations between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. weekdays, and 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays.
The West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St., will be having a “baby story time” on Tuesday, Dec. 20 at 10:30 a.m. Join other parents and children for a half hour of stories, songs, rhymes, movement and activities appropriate for babies and toddlers up to two years old. Registration is required. Call the library at (312) 747-7381.
Yoga for adults will be held at the library on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 9:30 a.m. All fitness levels are welcome to join. Call the library to register.
Santa Claus is coming to the Midway Baseball and Softball Association Winter Wonderland at 6707 S. Keating on Saturday, Dec. 17. Santa will have lots of gifts to give out to kids ages 12 and under. The event will take place from 4:30 to 7 p.m. in a huge heated tent. Get photos taken with Santa and the Christmas Grinch. This is always such a fun event for kids. If you’d like to donate toys, call Elsa at (773) 575-9361 to arrange a drop off or pick up.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas!
