From staff reports

A Bridgeview man has been charged with reckless homicide after he was allegedly involved in a fatal crash in Palos Hills earlier this month.

Daniel D. Swan, 32, was charged in connection with the August 6 multi-vehicle crash in the 10900 block of Southwest Highway.

Palos Hills police said they were dispatched to the multi-vehicle crash at 12:23 a.m. on August 6, 2 along with paramedics from the North Palos Fire Protection District.

Officers and paramedics rendered aid to the victims of the crash. Four victims were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn for treatment of injuries suffered in the crash.

A 40-year-old male passed away at the hospital due to injuries suffered in the crash. Two females were admitted in critical condition at the hospital. One male was treated and released from the hospital.

Police said the driver of the at-fault vehicle, later identified as Swan, initially fled the scene on foot. He was subsequently taken into custody near the crash scene. He was later transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center by the North Palos Fire Protection District.

The Suburban Major Accident Reconstruction Team was requested to the scene and assisted with this investigation.

The Palos Hills Police Criminal Investigations Division investigated and presented the case to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office. Swan was subsequently charged with Reckless Homicide, Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Causing a Death, Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Causing Great Bodily Harm (2 Counts), Driving Under the Influence, Driving in the Wrong Lane, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash.

A bond hearing took place at the Bridgeview Courthouse on August 8. The Honorable Judge Jones set bail for Swan at $80,000 with special conditions. He remains in police custody.

Swan’s next scheduled court date is August 31 at the Bridgeview Courthouse.
