When you drive by the school you can’t help but see their state-of-the-art building that houses the Engineering and Advanced Manufacturing Department. The chairman of the department, Professor Catherine Sikora, helped design and build a machine that makes Oreo cookies.
I could write a whole column on Oreo cookies.

St. Mary Star of the Sea Parish is having a fall mum fundraiser. You may order orange, purple, red, yellow or white mums in nine-inch pots for $10 each. Call the Rectory at (773) 767-1246 and place your order by Sept. 11. The pick-up date is Sept. 30 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. and takes place in the south parking lot, near 64th and Kilbourn.
The Chicago Artopia Company will be presenting a fall concert series in the neighborhood. Their first concert takes place on Saturday, Sept. 9 at 7 p.m. at the West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St. Cellist Ian Maksin is featured. There is no admission charge, and all are welcome.

I’ve gotten a few calls from neighbors asking about orange cones, lane rerouting and the street repairs being done on Cicero Avenue between 67th and 71st streets. People want to know what exactly is going on. This has been going on for quite some time and has made the already trafficky street even more challenging to navigate. A new bridge overlay with joint replacement and structural steel repairs is being done. Expected completion is November 2023.
