Our postman, Gabriel Gamboa, can no longer wait. He will soon be enjoying his retirement. The residents around the blocks out here this way will be without the best mailman ever. I wish him well for the future and hope to sit on the porch and drink some Tecate or Hamm’s with him.
One can only wish that Eddie can come on over to deliver on 57th Place. It’s going to be a cold, lonely summer without Gabriel delivering here. Thank you, Gabriel, for your service.
The winds on April 14 were so strong, they caused some destruction along 58th and Pulaski. The billboard that was located in the empty lot behind the old Tastee-Freez was uprooted and landed in the next-door neighbor’s fence. Thank God no one was hurt, that thing could have killed someone. It was cleared up pretty quick, seeing how it appeared to be quite dangerous.
There has also been activity at 59th and Pulaski, where the Walgreens. Cinder blocks and machinery have showed up. So maybe, just maybe it is getting rebuilt. I do not know for sure, just speculating.

Dia del Nino (Children’s Day) is an annual celebration held on April 30 throughout Mexico. It’s a day when children should feel special and recognized as an important part of society.
Children and their families from St. Turibius Parish are invited to celebrate in the lower church from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturday, April 30. There will be games, piñatas and raffles. Food, juice and water will be available for purchase.
Mark the date–May 22–for a Mass and blessing of St. Richard Church’s stained-glass windows, The Mass will be held at 2 p.m.
Let’s all celebrate Earth Day on the 22nd. There are simple ways to do it. Take a walk, sip from a reusable water bottle or maybe fill a bird feeder. If the weather ever gets nicer, we can start planting.
