Justice police arrest teen in Suri Davis murder

A 14-year-old boy was arrested last week in the murder in November of Argo High School sophomore Suri Davis.
Justice police said the teen was arrested June 13 and charged with one felony count of first-degree murder in the November 22 shooting death of Suri Davis, 15.
Police said the teen lived in the 8600 block of West 85th Street and was being charged as a juvenile. He remains in custody at the Cook County Juvenile Detention Center without bond. His next court date is in July.
Justice Police Chief Kraig McDermott said he was unable to discuss much of the case because of the teen’s age. He did not disclose a motive for the shooting.
Police said they found Suri unresponsive in a second-floor stairwell in the Willow Hills apartment complex at 8643 S. 87th Avenue after receiving a 911 call at 4:56 p.m. She had been shot in the head.
Roberts Park Fire Protection District paramedics said Suri had suffered significant blood loss and had no pulse.
Her mother said she spoke to her about 3:30 p.m. as she was arriving home from school.
“She got dropped off from the bus service. She entered our building and proceeded to go into the apartment but never made it up there,” her mother, Jasmine Davis told WGN-Channel 9 News. “It was a tragic incident that took place in the middle of our building, inside the hallway area. My daughter was attacked.”
“We do not believe this was random, we believe she knew the person,” Justice police Sgt. Fred Schuerg said at the time.
McDermott confirmed the teen was questioned early in the investigation, when he was 13.
Schuerg confirmed at the time a nearby lake was searched on November 24 but said he could not release any information on whether anything was turned up in the search.
Police used drones and a bloodhound to search the area after Suri’s body was discovered.
The South Suburban Major Crimes Task Force assisted Justice police with the investigation.
