Plant sale coming at St. Mary SOS

I hope everyone had a nice Easter holiday. I got a big surprise on Palm Sunday. I received a big stack of mail. I hadn’t gotten any mail at all for a few days. I was wondering if I’d ever get mail again. Palm Sunday mail delivery was a first for me. Alleluia!

St. Mary Star of the Sea Church is having their annual spring plant sale. The sale will take place on Friday, May 12 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday, May 13 from 8 a.m. to noon. There will be geraniums, begonias, impatiens, marigolds, pansies and periwinkles.

In addition to flowers, you can buy tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. All are priced at $2 and under. The sale takes place at the rectory garage, 6435 S. Kilbourn.

St. Mary’s also offers a pre-order service. You can call Barbara at (708) 269-8833 to place your order and it will be ready to pick up on the plant sale days.

The West Lawn Branch Library, 4020 W. 63rd St., is having a Teen Video Game Zone event on Thursday, April 20 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. Youths ages 13-19 are invited to hang out and play video games with others on Nintendo Switch with Oculus VR headsets.

The Calvary Lutheran Church Senior Club, 6149 S. Kenneth, will have their next bingo lunch get together on Tuesday, April 18 at noon. All seniors are invited to join this fun and lively group. Bring a sandwich and a few dollars for bingo. Call Elaine at (773) 424-3031 to let her know you’re coming.

A big shout out goes to Gerardo and Quintana Auto repair shop, 4034 W. 63rd St. One day last week my hubby’s brakes were making such a noise we thought a jet was flying overhead. We drove straight to Gerardo’s and they took care of the problem. We needed brake pads and rotors. The staff is super friendly, too! Call them at (773) 424-0634.

Thank you once again to West Lawn neighborhood activist Eddie Guillen. Eddie answered a call from some residents who needed help with fallen branches caused by the storm we had a couple of weeks ago. Eddie and volunteers cleaned up the branches and a lot of garbage that had been blown about by the strong winds. Eddie, thank you for helping neighborhood residents unable to deal with this clean up.

Congratulations to El Solazo restaurant, 5600 S. Pulaski. Solazo’s was featured last week on the TV show Check Please. The food reviewers had nothing but good things to say about this family owned neighborhood restaurant. El Solazo has great pozole, tortas, guacamole, ceviche, enchiladas, tacos and more. It is BYOB and open very late. Call for hours at 773-627-5047. I can’t wait to go there again!
